We are very pleased to welcome Saar Snoek to host a workshop focusing on lightweight sculptural felt

Saar Snoek is a multi-award winning milliner and textile artist based in the Netherlands. She won the Stephen Jones Creativity Prize in 2025. Saar is celebrated for her innovative use of felt and her ability to create captivating organic sculptures and wearable art. Saar's work is characterised by her use of natural materials which she transforms into intricate and expressive creations. In 2024 Saar won the Milliners Competition and was invited to participate in a group show at the Met Gallery in New York. Her entry, inspired by the 1934 film, Riptide, was praised for its contemporary reinterpretation and intricate craftsmanship. Saar's skills allow her to push the boundaries of traditional millinery and felt textiles creating new ways of working that she shares with her students.

The workshop will be spread over five days. During the workshop you will learn how to make hollow lightweight sculptural felt that can be used in millinery and jewellery. Saar has developed a technique for making complex sculptural shapes from flat Nuno prefelts. You will learn different ways to add colour to your work by painting and dyeing the wool, silk and felt. Some of these techniques can be used to dye felt capelines. The workshop is hands-on practical and playful but at the same time focused on enhancing your technical skills and knowledge. Each participant will work on their own project and students will be encouraged to learn from each other. The workshop is suitable for both beginners and experienced feltmakers. Students can work at their own pace and will be supported throughout the workshop. Prior to the workshop, Saar will ask you what your goals are for the workshop to make sure your finished creations are in line with your own aspirations and skill level.
